Hi friends!  This is Carmen with you today sharing an upcyle project and continuing are month long theme of Paris.

I’ve never been to Paris, France but it’s definitely at the top of my bucket list of places to visit, right after England! You know what they say, Paris is always a good idea!  I decided to upcycle this dumpster rescue table and give it a Parisian look.

When I say “dumpster rescue” I’m not kidding!  I went to take the trash out and there she was waiting for me to rescue her!  She was a little wobbly but, otherwise in great shape.

Supplies:

Tools:

  • Waxing brush
  • Stenciling brush
  • 2″ flat brush
  • painters tape
  • clean, lint free cloth
  1. After wiping the table clean I applied 3 coats of Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Lace.
  2. I then secured the Parisian Street stencil with some painters tape to the table.  I wanted to leave room for the Vintage Keys stencil just below the words.  I used Chalky Finish in Carbon Black with a stenciling brush.  This chalky finish paint dries quickly so this process was easy and brief.

3.  I then applied to the entire painted surface some Americana Decor Creme Wax with the waxing brush.  The paint just soaked this wax right up, but a little goes a long way, so you don’t have to apply a thick coat.  Now you could easily stop here and you would have a wonderful upcycled small table for a living or bedroom.  But, I wanted to give it a more weathered look.

4.  I applied the Americana Decor Golden Brown wax lightly with the waxing brush.  I worked in sections and then   rubbed any excess wax off with a damp, clean, lint free cloth.  It’s a matter of wax on, wax off (no pun intended!) for this process to get the look you want.

5.  As a final layer, I applied the creme wax to seal the table and protect it.  If you’re going to use a piece outside, I would recommend using a varnish as the final layer.

6.  The Carbon chalky finish paint worked perfectly on the little brass handle.  I also sealed it with the creme wax.

I think it’s the perfect addition to my vintage styled bedroom and is a convenient side table.

The small altered bottle is a project I did a few months ago and you can check it out here.

So, the next time you come across an ugly and little bit tattered table or piece of furniture, think of the possibilities and give it another chance.

Make sure you come back to the blog often, we have lots of creativity happening over here!

Blessings,
