Hello friends!  Carmen here with another great project for you.  On my most recent Goodwill outing I found some wonderful little bottles that were just begging me to take them home!  But, what to do with them?  I decided to use some DecoArt Chalky Finish Paint and give them a Shabby Chic look.

Supplies

• Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Lace, Refreshing, New Life
• Americana Decor Clear Creme Wax, Dark Brown Creme Wax
• DecoArt Media Line Fluid Acrylics in Payne’s Grey, Viridian Green Hue, Cobalt Teal Hue
• DecoArt Media Line Antiquing Cream in Titanium White and English Red Oxide
• DecoArt Media Line Matte Medium and Crackle Glaze
• Lace trims of your choice

Tools

• Sponge brushes for Chalky Finish paint
• Stipple brushes for Creme Waxes
• small brushes for antiquing creams
• Tacky glue

I gave them a good wash and made sure the surface was clean to apply the paint.

I applied three layers of Chalky Finish paint using a sponge brush applicator.  I found the sponge brush left fewer stroke marks.  Once the paint was dry I applied a generous coat of Creme Wax and let it dry.

I then applied a thin layer of dark wax to the entire bottle. I wiped off the excess with a damp baby wipe.  Make sure it’s not too wet or it will take off too much wax.  The harder you rub, the more you take off and you could also take off some of the paint.  This was fine with me, because it just added to the Shabby look.  Finally, I sealed it with another coat of Creme Wax and let them dry over night.

I went then to my stash of laces, trims and Trinity Brass embellishments to decorate each of the bottles.

I wanted the brass to have a distressed look so I painted each of them with DecoArt’s Media Line Fluid Acrylics in Payne’s Grey, Viridian Green Hue, Cobalt Teal Hue.  Once dry I sealed it with the Matte Medium and let that layer dry.  I then generously applied a coat of Crackle Glaze, for this to work effectively, let the glaze dry naturally and without a heat gun.  Once the glaze is dry, apply the antiquing cream with a small brush, let it sit for about 5 minutes and gently wipe with a soft cloth.  The harder you wipe, the more you remove.

I then embellished each of the bottles with the charms and chains and keeping them in place with tacky glue.

These are a perfect size to place on a dresser, vanity or night stand.  You can also incorporate them into your dining room table displays.  So don’t throw out those old bottles!  Give them a new life as Shabby Chic Altered Bottles.
