I love the look of stenciling on wood. A while back I bought a bunch of unfinished wood crown clothes hooks on sale to stencil. The hook part is nice and big for holding purses, coats, hats, scarves – just about anything. I like having hooks on the back of my bedroom and bathroom doors, and these don’t require anything more than a hammer and nail to install.
After painting the crown a nice bright orange, I sealed it with a coat of clear glitter medium. Of course I added an extra sprinkle of glitter while the medium was still wet…there’s no such thing as too much glitter, I’m told.
When the paint was dry, I held a detailed floral stencil down in position and spread crackle paste across the surface with a palette knife. After carefully lifting off the stencil, I cleaned up any excess paste from around the edges with a paint brush. After the crackle paste dried, I painted the edges of the crown white.
To accent the crackle finish and tone back the bright white, I lightly rubbed a copper color pigment ink stamp pad over the surface. This was super fun and easy to make – I love the look of it!
