Hi friends! Carmen with you today to share an easy tutorial for a Steampunk Father’s Day tag.
That’s right Father’s day is just around the corner and you probably already have a gift in mind or picked out, but what about the tag? I love creating these types of tags because they are like a work of art that can be kept and used for something else. For instance, they make great bookmarkers.
Supplies needed:
- #8 Manila tag
- DecoArt Media Line: Gesso , gel medium and Crackle Paste
- DecoArt Media Line Fluid Acrylics: Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Payne’s Grey
- DecoArt Media Line Antiquing Cream ,Carbon Black
- Andy Skinner Stencils – Incognito and Made to Measure
- Walnut Ink spray
- Vintage book page
- StazOn archival ink
- Letter stamps, small
Tools: Palette knife, makeup sponge, heat tool.

1. I first applied gesso to the tag, once dry I adhered strips of a vintage book page with gel medium. Once dry with a heat tool, I spread the fluid acrylic in Raw Sienna on the entire tag. To give it a more vintage look I spritzed the entire tag with walnut ink. I let the puddles accumulate and dried them with the heat gun, I love that look!
2. Next, mix the crackle paste with Burnt Umber fluid acrylic and apply through the Incognito stencil. These gears and cracks will really give it a Steampunk look.
4. Once the crackle paste is air dried, I applied the antiquing cream to the cracks and gears. After just a couple of minutes, wipe it off with a damp (not wet) baby wipe. This will leave just enough color in the cracks and around the gears. I also rubbed some antiquing cream along the edge of the tag. The man image was made with the Made to Measure stencil and Paynes Grey fluid acrylics, using a makeup sponge to apply paint.
5. Finally, add the sentiment of your choice. I stamped Happy Father’s Day in the StazOn ink in Ganache
This is a quick and easy tag to make, but will be so admired and appreciated on Father’s Day.
