This is Carmen and today I am sharing with you this wonderful Patriotic Summer Frame.

Just in time for the Fourth of July, this frame is patriotic but you can display it all summer long!

Patriotic Summer Frame

Supplies:

  • Wood frame
  • Acrylic paints in red, white and blue
  • The Crafter’s Workshop stencil TCW547 Repeating Pods
  • ArtistCellar Stencil Tam’s Whimsy Series (stars)
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Vintage Photo

Tools:

  • makeup sponges
  • 1-inch brush

Patriotic Summer Frame

  1. Paint the front and sides of the frame with white acrylic paint using the 1-inch brush. These wood frames sometimes have rough edges and you may need to use a nail file or sandpaper to smooth out the edges before painting.
  2. Paint the upper left corner of the frame with the blue paint.  Lay the Repeating Pods stencil on top of the frame and apply red paint with the makeup sponge.  Make sure not to move the stencil so you will have an even pattern.  If you get some red outside of the pattern, onto the white, simply apply white paint over the smudges.

3.   I used my Molotow white paint pen with Tam’s Whimsy stencil.  I love the whimsical star shapes on this stencil and I thought it would be perfect to give this frame a more whimsical feel.

4.  I wanted to give the frame a little bit of a vintage feel also, so I applied Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Vintage Photo around the edges of the frame.

[Tweet “Just in time for #July4th, patriotic painted frame #tutorial #crafts”]Looking for a picture to put in the frame, I came across some very old pictures.  This picture of my dad, brother and myself alongside our Dodge Dart, circa 1976.  I chose this picture to honor my dad on this recent Father’s Day, but he is also the man that had the foresight to get his family out of Cuba years earlier and bring them to the United States. For that, I’m so thankful.

I hope you enjoyed this project and remember to come back soon for more creative inspiration from our team.

Blessings,
