Oly*Fun is inexpensive, it does not fray, comes in a huge array of colors and is so easy to use!
Creating Oly*Fun Personalized Stenciled Placemats was a no brainer with lots of picnics planned for this summer.
Here’s how to make your own:
Steps One, Two, Three, Four:
Cut Oy*Fun for each placemat, 17″ x 22″. You can get four placemats from one yard of Oly*Fun, which is less then a dollar a piece:0)
Choose the color you would like for the accent color of your placemat. There are so many colors of Oly*Fun that I did not have to repeat any of the colors, which is great.
Cut the pocket for your placemat, 8″ x 12″. Fold it in half, so that it is 8″ x 6″.
Pin the pocket onto the lower left corner of the placemat base, about 1/2 inch from the left side and bottom.
Steps Five, Six, Seven:
Start to stitch the pocket in place on the right side of the pocket, with a 1/4″ – 1/2″ seam allowance.
Continue until the entire pocket is stitched. Oly*Fun stitches like butter…
Create 4 pockets by stitching three seams through the pocket.
Steps Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven:
Cut two 12″ x 1/2″ pieces of Oly*Fun for the ties.
Place the ties onto the back side of the base, on the opposite side of the pocket.
Stitch the tie in place, being sure to reinforce with backstitching several times.
Trim threads as needed.
Steps Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen:
Use a dauber to apply the ink for the letters on the backside next to the ties.
Remove the stencil at the edge, to be sure ink is dark enough.
Remove stencil and repeat with the rest of the letters for the name.
Steps Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen:
If you are going to want to wash these, be sure to use pigment ink…
Put the utensils into the pocket along with a napkin.
Roll up starting at the pocket edge and tie.

Designer Tips for making Oly*Fun Personalize Stenciled Placemats:
- If you do not have a stencil you can use Alphabet Stamps.
- Create you own Alphabet Stencils with an electronic die cutting machine if you have one.
- Let the kids sew their own pocket on if they want, this is a great beginner sewing project.
- Have the kid help stencil or stamp, this will help them personalize the placemat just for them.
- Glue the pocket in place or hand sew it if desired.
