Recently I took a cardmaking class from my friend Daniela Costa. She designs totally adorable papercraft projects with loads of texture and distress. I just love how mixed media techniques can bring so much character to a greeting card. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or expressing your love any day of the year, this is the type of handmade card that your beloved is sure to cherish.
We decoupaged backgrounds and chipboard hearts with pages from a vintage dictionary, then we dry-brushed paint on to sections of torn corrugated cardboard. We edged and distressed surfaces with inks and added stamped patterns for extra texture. I love the blend of cute and girly with a little rough and tumble.
I had so much fun in this class, getting my fingers inky and putting my own spin on the cards’ accents. I hope these inspire you to think about which creative techniques you want to use punch up your next batch of handmade cards – have fun!
