This turned out simply Magical and it all started with a Phone Book!
Steps One, Two, Three:
Trace around the phone book onto a piece of matboard. Cut out, (make 2).
Apply a generous amount of glue and attach the matboard to the front and back of the phone book.
Add some tape to the binding being sure to cover the edges of the matboard.
Steps Four Five, Six:
Die cut two sets of letters saying “BOOK OF SPELLS” (for the cover) and “SPELLS” (for the binding) out of matboard.
Glue the letters together and adhere “BOOK OF SPELLS” onto the front of the book.
And then, ‘SPELLS” to the binding.
Steps Seven, Eight, Nine:
Apply a generous amount of decoupage medium to the entire front cover.
Crumble up a piece of tissue paper and place it onto the cover. Add a second coat of deoupage medium on top of the tissue paper.
Being the tissue paper around onto the binding and back cover in the same way.
Steps Ten, Eleven, Twelve:
Repeat steps 7, 8, 9 with a second piece of tissue paper, this will give the book more texture. Let Dry.
Trim the tissue paper close to the edge and glue to the inside of the covers. Glue one of the pages from book to the inside of the covers to keep everything neat.
Paint the entire book with black acrylic paint. Let dry.
Steps Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen:
Using a blender brush apply metallic pigment ink to the edges of the book.
Apply metallic pigment ink over the ridges of the back cover.
Then onto the binding, front cover and edges.
Enjoy your Harry Potter Inspired Book of Spells!
Additional Notes & Tips:
- Grab an old phone book in the size desired. The one I chose is 8 1/2″ h x 7″ w x 1 1/2″ thick. You will need to find an old phone book as newer ones are not very thick.
- You could use an old book if desired, I liked the think pages of the phone book.
- If desired skip the matboard for the covers.
