Fall is here, the leaves are turning all sorts of beautiful colors and the best part…it is also Indian Summer here in Minnesota. I love this time of year!
We did our fall cleaning this weekend…and I got out my fall home décor…I have not put everything into place yet as I still have just a few more things to make!
I have been making these Fabric Pumpkins for 20+ years…when I did craft shows they were always a best seller. Some of them were looking worse for wear so I decided to make a couple new ones…they are oh so easy to create!
Here’s how to make your own:
Step 1:
Fold your fabric in half, then in half again and again. This will make it easy to cut a curve and have a circle. Cut anywhere from 3″ for a small pumpkin up to 20″ for a gigantic pumpkin…and anywhere in between for the size you want.
Step 2:
Do a running stitch about 1/4″ from the edge of the outer circle.
Step 3:
Pull the stitching to close up the circle a bit.
Step 4:
Add a small amount of play sand in the bottom, to help weigh the pumpkin down and then, add Poly-fil to desired fullness. Tie off the threads to close.
Step 5:
Cut a long piece of twine and wrap around the pumpkin, cross at the top and bring the twine around on the side of the pumpkin. Repeat until you have the pumpkin sectioned off into 1/8th’s.
Step 6:
Place branch into the center. Add raffia around the branch, tie a bow and glue in place.
Supplies:
- Fabric
- Poly-Fil
- Branch
- Twine
- Play Sand
- Craft Glue

I am having a hard time closing the top of pumpkin
You have to tie it really tight…with a scant seam. It does not have have to be closed all the way as you will add a stem in the opening. Then, add raffia around it, it will all be covered up.
