Day of the Dead Wall Hanging

Rather than mourning, the Day of the Dead is a joyful celebration of the lives of those who have passed, emphasizing the connection between the living and the dead. This project is my way of honoring it, using the beautiful skull patch and colorful ribbons from Gwen Studios. I hope you give it try. Crafty hugs, Lisa~

Step One:

Cut two pieces of the Orange cardstock 8″ x 8″ and cut the corners with a corner rounder punch. Next, cut a piece of Black ribbon 10″ and adhere it to the back of the wood. Adhere the Orange cardstock to the front and back sides of the wood. Cut the striped patterned paper 7 1/2″ x 7 1/2″. Cut the corners with a corner rounder punch and adhere it to the front.

Step Two:

Adhere the patch on a piece of Black cardstock and trim around it with scissors, leaving a 1/4″ border as shown. Attach two rhinestones to the center of the eyes. Use the glue gun to attach the small flowers around the top part of the skull. See the finished photo for placement.

Step Three:

Cut five pieces of different color ribbons 6″. Using a tape runner, adhere the small skull crosses to the bottom part of the ribbons. Cut pieces of the rhinestone trim and adhere them to the ribbons with the tape runner as shown.

Step Four:

Using wire cutters, cut three pieces of the Silver wire 12″ each. Next cut two pieces of black wire 9″ each. Wrap the wires around a large paintbrush to curl them. To finish, attach two layers of foam tape to the back of the skull and place it in the center of the wood base. Attach the ribbons to the base in various lengths with the glue gun. Arrange the flowers, wires, pearl spray embellishments, and the butterfly and adhere them to the base with the glue gun. See the finished photo for placement.
