Here are the few materials you will need…

  • Grapevine wreath or wire wreath
  • Fat quarters in 3 different patterns
  • scissors
  1. If you’re not familiar with “fat quarters”, they are pre-cut pieces of cotton that are one-fourth the size of a yard of fabric (usually 18″ x 22″).  They are popular with quilters and can be purchased in bundles of coordinating colors.  I selected two patterned pieces and one all white. I wanted it to be Valentine inspired and something I can use year round if I wanted.  If you have left over scraps of material, this is the perfect project to use them.

2.  I cut the material into strips of approximately 1″ wide by 8″ to 9″ long.  The strips weren’t perfect in size and wanted it to have a natural, handmade feel to the wreath.  I selected a grapevine wreath with that theme in mind, but you can easily select a wire wreath for this same project.  I used the scissors to push the strips through and then double knotted them.  I went all around the front of the wreath with a pattern for the three designs and then to give it a more full look, I tied strips to the outside edge.  Once this part is complete you can look at the wreath and see if there are any open gaps that you can add more strips.

After fluffing up the strips I added one more to the top of the wreath to use for hanging.  I chose to display my wreath in my breakfast nook hanging from this red and white wood shelf.  It adds a perfect pop of color to the room and gives it a Valentine feel.  It can also be hung on the front door for a Valentine greeting for your guests.

This is an easy project that can be done with kids and in a couple of hours.  I hope it inspires you to do a little home decor for Valentine’s Day, but make sure and come back to see what our team is up to and creating.
