Smoothfoam button wreath Lisa Fulmer

I just love a simple button wreath! Especially when it’s this easy to make with nothing more than straight pins and a foam wreath form. Why leave all your buttons sitting in jars or buried in drawers, when you can keep them beautifully displayed together like this? The other thing I love about this project is that it’s a really cute way to store your buttons. Because they’re just pinned into the Smoothfoam, you can easily see what all you have, then remove and replace buttons to use as needed.

Smoothfoam makes these new ruled wreath forms that are marked with lines and numbers all the way around. This makes it much easier to evenly place your buttons and other decorative items without having to measure. In addition to the lines marked around the wreath form like minutes on a clock face, there’s an indented line around the top so you know exactly where front and center is.

I painted my wreath form with green acrylic craft paint first. Once dry, I placed my larger “anchor” buttons at each numbered spot with pearl-head straight pins. I found these pins in the wedding aisle of the craft store, not with sewing notions.

Add a second pin if desired, to prevent the buttons from spinning around. No glue needed – now just fill in randomly with lots of smaller buttons. Pin a loop of ribbon on the back for hanging.

I’m making a button wreath for each different color family in my button collection – these wreath forms are nice and narrow, plus they come in different diameters, too – so you can nest a smaller button wreath inside a larger one. Not only will these look super cute hanging in my studio, I just freed up space in my mini-drawers for more charms and brads and blingy doo-dads!
