Hi Bella Crafts fans!  Lisa Marie Jimenez, here today to show you how to make this Beautiful Heart Wall Decor, using a prefab wood heart.

I found the wood heart in the bargain bins at Target.  Can you believe this heart was only $3.00!   When I saw it, I could not pass it up as I knew it would make a great project.  Using scrapbook paper, I was able to match the finished piece to my studio decor.  Let me show you how easy it is to make this Beautiful Heart.

Beautiful Heart Wall Decor

Supplies:
• Wood Heart Sign
• Metal Butterfly
• Heidi Swapp® “Beautiful” Sticker
• Floral Paper
• Pattern Paper
• Mod Podge
• Spray Clear Coat, Matte
• White Paint
• Brush
• Xacto Knife
• Glue
• Sandpaper

How I made my Beautiful Heart Wall Decor:

1. Remove the string from the heart and set aside. Sand any rough edges of the heart with sandpaper. Paint the entire heart with white paint. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat of paint if needed.Painting wood heart

2. Tear the paper into random sections. Using Mod Podge® apply the pattern paper to the outer edge of the heart. Next, apply the floral torn pieces to the center of the heart. When you are finished covering the heart with the torn paper pieces, apply a top coat of Mod Podge and let dry.Decoupage wood heart

3. Trim the edges of the paper using a blade knife. Use fine grit sandpaper to lightly distress the paper and smooth the edges of the paper. While sanding the paper may tear, this is ok, as it adds to the distressed look of the heart.

4. Using a blade knife, cut the paper to expose the slats in the wood. Use sandpaper to remove the paper from the slats.DIY Heart Wall Decor

5. Next, add a small amount of water to white paint and “wash” the paint over the top of the paper. If you apply too much paint, wipe excess away with a cloth.  When paint dries, spray the entire heart with a matte clear coat.

6. Place the “Beautiful” sticker at an angle on the heart and glue the metal butterfly in place. Attach the original string to the heart, for hanging.

That was easy! Now you have a stunning decor piece which was made for under $10.00! Next time you are shopping and you see those craft bargain bins, stop and look through them, you may find a plain item just waiting to be turned into a gem.
