Happy Monday! Sorry I was AWOL last week – did ya miss me? I had to tend to some family business…but I’m back and ready to get my craft on!
Decorate something like a jar, a box or a pillow using at least 25 tiny little things from your stash, like buttons, charms, beads, flowers or rhinestones.
Not long ago, I went through all my buttons and separated them by color into little jars. I discovered I had a ton of black buttons in various styles and sizes. So that’s the stash I went to for this prompt. After a short scroll through “button crafts” on Pinterest, I spotted some cute little round ornaments covered in buttons. Then I searched on “button ball” and I saw some super cool button topiary balls and even button-covered globes. I had a 6” Smoothfoam ball in my closet that was just screaming to be covered in buttons.
Since the buttons were all the same color, but different sizes, I didn’t think they’d look as nice without something to unify them. If the buttons were different sizes and also different colors, then the randomness would look cool, at least to me. I decided to glue each button to a circle of patterned cardstock first. I painted the ball green so a little color would peek out in between the circles, then glued all the buttons on to the ball, overlapping them just a tiny bit. Then I pushed in some ball-head pins to accent the spaces between the buttons.
I love how this looks on my sideboard with some books and framed photos – it’s a crafty cool objet d’arte!
